That’s an important question. In a world filled with thousands of religious groups, how can anyone be sure they are in the right church? The answer is not found in human opinion or family tradition, but in the Word of God.
The Right Church Belongs to Christ
Jesus said, “I will build my church” (Matt 16:18 ESV). The church is not mine, yours, or any denomination’s—it belongs to Christ. If a church is named after men, founded by men, or guided by man-made creeds, it cannot be the church Jesus built.
The Right Church Follows the Apostles’ Teaching
In the first century, Christians “devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching” (Acts 2:42 ESV). The true church today will follow that same standard, not adding or taking away from Scripture (Gal 1:8–9; Rev 22:18–19). Worship, organization, and salvation must all be guided by the New Testament pattern.
The Right Church Teaches the Right Plan of Salvation
The New Testament is clear: one must believe in Christ (John 8:24), repent of sins (Acts 17:30), confess Him (Rom 10:9–10), and be baptized for the forgiveness of sins (Acts 2:38; Acts 22:16). Any church teaching “faith only” or “pray the sinner’s prayer” is not teaching the plan of salvation found in Scripture.
The Right Church Practices Biblical Unity
Paul wrote, “There is one body and one Spirit… one Lord, one faith, one baptism” (Eph 4:4–5 ESV). True unity comes when all believers submit to the same truth, not when each chooses their own path.
Conclusion
You don’t “pick” the right church like you would a restaurant or a sports team. You identify it by comparing its doctrine and practice with God’s word. The right church is simply the one that belongs to Christ, follows the Bible alone, and teaches the same gospel the apostles preached in the first century.
Friend, if you are searching, don’t settle for what feels comfortable. Search the Scriptures. The same church that began in Acts 2 still exists today, and you can be part of it.
